Rodney MacDonald and the Mysterious Case of the "Peek-a-boo Platform"

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

New Waterford - NDP MLA Frank Corbett says that today’s release of the so-called Tory Blue Book underlines the fundamental problem with Rodney MacDonald’s government - their inability to own-up to their mistakes, and be honest with the people of Nova Scotia.

“Rodney MacDonald, as late as yesterday, was still being forced into admitting how he failed to be honest with the people of Nova Scotia,” says Corbett.  “I guess it’s little wonder that today he tried to hide his own platform release...I think it’s pretty clear that he’s running from his record, rather than on his record.”

MacDonald's public itinerary for today noted that he would hold “A campaign news conference” in Musquodoboit Harbour.  It mentioned nothing of the release of the so-called platform document.

“Rodney MacDonald is fond of trying to tell people just how many different 'plans' he is putting forward.  There was Building for Growth, the Budget, then this so-called platform.”

Corbett summarized the different Tory plans this way:
Plan A: Hide the deficit
Plan B: Take the (offshore) money and run
Plan C: Try to buy your way out of trouble (e.g. $88 per child)
Plan D: If in doubt, see Plan A

Corbett laughed-off MacDonald’s assertion that the “cost” of the Tory platform is $14.9 million dollars.

“Nova Scotians are tired of this shell game.  They don’t believe Rodney MacDonald, and they don’t trust him.”
